Is Your Coral Quarantined

I often get emails or messages asking this question. This isn’t quite a simple question with a simple answer.

   Yes, but no…
I have not procured new coral in about 3 years. (as up Jan 2026) The only fish that have been added since all systems went through an initial Fallow period have been either QT’d by me, following Humble Fish guidelines, or from Fishotel.com, or ordered directly from Biota.

I cannot guarantee 100% no risk of fish disease, but I can only promise I tried my best to not introduce fish disease into my systems. I do not feel the cost of testing with aquabiomics at $100+/system is justifiable, nor is there any other competitor for that service to even compare the accuracy against. And, at what point would people be appeased? Testing once a year? 4x a year? I don’t really know.

I wouldn’t say everything has been done 110% Humblefish approved, so I do not make the brazen claim of perfectly Quarantined coral.

In 7 years, I’ve not lost 1 fish from disease. Only 2 from jumping. New coral is Qt’d, as I cannot afford the risk of introducing coral pests such as AEFW or Montipora eating nudibranchs. Tanks are too shallow and open top to keep wrasses, let alone use them to manage those pests.

In a nutshell, much safer bet than the vast majority of coral dealers, but I can’t guarantee, as what would the recourse be? Financially liable for all of the fish in your tank? How can one prove or disprove a claim anyhow?

I’m just a guy growing coral in his basement to sell as ethically and affordably as possible.

I don’t mean this to sound “gruff” or defensive. Just saying it as I see it is all.
